Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) remains essentially incurable, and goals of therapy include the palliation of symptoms, delay of disease progression, and prolongation of overall survival time without negatively impacting quality of life. Anthracycline and taxane-based therapies have traditionally shown the highest degree of activity in MBC.

10% of breast cancer patients are originally diagnosed with this stage of breast cancer, and 30% of early stage breast cancer patients will eventually develop stage IV. The median survival after an MBC diagnosis is 36 months. an increase of only 18 months since 1970. Metastatic breast cancer patients receive treatment for the rest of their lives. More than 150,000, new study shows. The number of women living with MBC is increasing. The lack of robust epidemiological statistics on the number of people living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) was highlighted as one of many critical gaps to making advances for MBC in our Landscape Report.

It's the most advanced stage of breast cancer.
